The time of our annual tradition of celebrating Mardi Gras has rolled around again! As with previous years, a square has been built within which we'll have the majority of eventing - but this year, it has a steampunk twist to it! Events will officially start from Friday 19 February - make sure you keep an eye out for group notices to keep up to date with exactly what'll be happening when.

We also have a stage area set up nearer to the Paw & Whisker clubhouse, where we'll be hosting a couple of live music events. The first will be on Sunday Feb 21st, when we welcome DanLange Diavalo, a Blues singer and slide guitarist to the Shire, who will play for two hours: Noon - 2 pm.

'DanLange Diavolo started playing the blues in the clubs and on the streets of his hometown of Philadelphia, including stints with Shakey Lyman's band "The Boogiemen" and in the "Hired Guns Blues Band," and he has played in a variety of locations and venues ever since, from London to San Francisco to Portland to the blues bars of Second Life. Dan plays fingerstyle slide guitar like no one else, combining country and urban blues elements, and does songs from a variety of genres in his own unique style.'

We will hold a memorial service and procession for Stillpink Sandgrain, who passed away last weekend, on Sat. Feb. 20th, at noon.  Check group notices for more information. But as it is opening weekend for Steampunk Mardi Gras, we will do it in the style of a New Orleans Jazz Funeral - which seems a fitting way to celebrate Stillpink's spirit.

For more information on this Jazz Funeral and its traditions, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz_funeral
and
http://www.ehow.com/how_2074874_arrange-new-orleans-jazz-funeral.html

From Zayn's group notice:
"Service will be 12 pm Noon on Saturday in the Heron Shire Forest. This will be a New Orleans Style Service followed by a very very Slow 1st Line Procession to The French Quarter on Raglan Shire where the 2nd line Celebration will begin.

Please read the Update at http://Http://raglanshire.com for ALL details  located at the bottom of the  anouncement about Pinks passing."

I'm not sure where to post this but the New World Notes has a piece on Stillpink.

Floats!

Floats for the Mardi Gras parade are NOW AVAILABLE! Get to the Mardi Gras square on Raglan Shire, look for Pan's awesome steampunk tricycle-driven float-contraption and buy a copy for the bargain price of $0L. Then, decorate it up! (Full instructions included in the float).

Thanks Pan, looks steampunkular spectacular!

Hi,
Probably wrong place for a question.  Rumor has it of Haiku Speed Build for Euro time early this Saturday morning. Feb. 27th.  It is not listed in event calendar.  Any truth to the rumor?
Thanks  Cool
